Journey to the World of Ancient Greek Mathematics at TIF

Placebo Events presents for the first time in Thessaloniki, at the kiosk 1 of TIF, the emblematic exhibition of the Greater Hellenistic Foundation, which was enjoyed by hundreds of thousands of visitors during its ten years of operation at the "Hellenic World" Cultural Center (2003-2013).
The most successful exhibition ever organized in Athens and impressed the public and academics, is ready to welcome students and teachers, as well as visitors of all ages.

This is an impressive exhibition about the history of ancient Greek mathematics, which attempts to highlight one of the most interesting aspects of ancient Greek culture and highlight through the pedagogical, its interactive and entertaining nature that mathematics can be interesting, pleasant and understandable.
”In the end, there is a solution to everything, with rule and diabetes;”
Let's get to know the three unsolved problems of antiquity.

We will meet Pythagoras, the man he saw everywhere
numbers and we will experiment with the musical scale on the monochord
του.
”How Thales calculated, this "restless spirit" of antiquity,
the height of Cheops' pyramid, with only one rope…and with her
his observation of course;”

The exhibition covers the entire period of ancient Greek mathematics from the 6th century BC. up to the 4th century AD. and refers to the most important "episodes" and persons in the history of Greek mathematics. A brief report is made, also, in the pre-Hellenic mathematics of the Egyptians and Babylonians, as in the course of Greek mathematics texts after the end of the ancient world.
Basic applications of mathematics in other sciences during that period, with special emphasis on astronomy, mathematical geography and music, αρχιτεκτονική, urban planning, nautical technology complete the image of Greek mathematics.
The eight sections of the report, organized in autonomous stations, they combine traditional media and newer technologies. Except for the texts, maps and constructions, interactive and digital applications are presented, that offer a fascinating tour of the world of ancient Greek mathematics and allow participation and exploration in a simple way, entertaining and understandable. Children learn by playing and adults are enchanted by the fascination of science.
Η έκθεση, like mathematics itself, it is undoubtedly for everyone.

The exhibition has been put together with the care of the scientists and museologists of the IME and with the kind contribution of the Hellenic Mathematical Society.
The scientific editing of the exhibition bears the signature of Yiannis Christianidis.
For the first time, an integral part of the exhibition will also be one
state-of-the-art virtual cinema with virtual reality glasses!
